Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

If this was any other CEO he would be fired by now. Why does he still have a job??? Does he own the board????

Two points: The first is Tenured GM's (read OLDER) have a legal method called "Age Discrimination". When used correctly the low class dipsh*ts like Otis will have to back off enough at least to allow you 16 weeks of severance and NO unemployment dispute (they hate allowing any of that cause that is their job, to save the dead company a few dollars... YOUR WELL DESERVED DOLLARS)

Second point: However, if you ALL ever coordinate in a class action suit, heheheh, well the sky's the limit my friends...

I would love to see one of the GMs that got fired sue for wrongful termination, based on the grounds that the CEO has done such a f---ing horrible job and still collects a paycheck.

I think most of you are missing the sarcasm in that post...at least that's how I took it. I will say that there are indeed a lot of tenured GMs that are unable/unwilling to now run the business with the drastic labor cuts. This makes life hell for the assistants/supervisors constantly busting their butts to make a name for themselves. I think most gray shirts are seeing the writing on the wall

Had to post on the guy blaming long tenured GM's hahahahah really ignorant. They have gotten rid lots of the long tenured folk and installed less expensive no talent folk and those stores are failing dramatically. Oh and by the way the DIRECTION of the company is owned by the upper exec's their bright boy.

Not sure if anyone of importance reads these posts but there is obviously some troll that loves to comment just to push buttons. If you're just trolling then have at it. If you're actually an executive then you should feel ashamed. You're a sophomoric, juvenile loser. No real professional with any integrity would get on here and deflect blame to some associate making a few dollars an hour. That type of personality would never admit fault so I certainly hope you're better at managing your personal finances than you are at managing your job. You're going to need to tap into that nest egg when your job is eliminated.

Doomed company no matter who runs it now. Ron and his team of "executives" and I use that term sarcastically, have driven this company to the point of NO return as far as brick and mortar stores are concerned. They may be able to keep the dot com business but that too is going to die once amazon gets geared up to put Staples out of the e commerce business. Plainly put, Ron should have been gone YEARS ago along with Otis, Vinnie, Mike and the rest. The upper management is too divorced from reality now for any possibility of a save. If these guys TRULY cared they would each go run a store for a month as a GM and see the restrictive labor and excessive expectations that are deemed deliverable. Could go on for hours but hate to say it look for a job if you are a GM or Supervisor NOW don't wait till the end.

If a GM continually loses money year over year, how long do you think (s)he will be around? Not long. I'm not saying that GMs shouldn't be dealt with accordingly but EVERYBODY should be held to the same standard. They should hire that guy who brought Best Buy out of the depths of bankruptcy.

At this point it's the fault of the "long tenured, highly paid" execs who have no idea how to turn the business around.

Of course Ron owns the board. It's made up of all his rich buddies. They should be embarrassed of themselves for not doing their jobs either but you know...money.

"It's the fault of the long tenured, highly paid GMs"

The thing is, most of those long tenured, highly paid GMs actually run profitable stores. Can't say the same about Ron. I am all for replacement of those that have proven they can't run their business unit profitably. Be it GM, DM, RVP and up to CEO. Most of the GMs I know that were driven out by Otis and his sycophantic RVPs ran great stores and did not deserve the kind of treatment they received from Staples.

Ron has consistently failed 8 years straight. Yet he continues to blame everyone else, including GMs that are more successful in their roles than he is in his. He needs to go. Time for a change.

Blaming the GMs is an ignorant and uneducated plot to shift blame. If a football team continously loses they don't fire players they fire coaches. If a military iniative fails you don't see ground troops answering for it. High ranking officers are called on the proverbial carpet. GMs don't come up with marketing or merchandising plans. In fact, they are given little to no say in how a store is set up and run. Those decisions are funneled down through the levels of upper management. The people on the front lines have no control over a dying industry. Customers want a new laptop or printer...why on earth would they go to Staples or Depot when they can get it cheaper at Walmart, Target or Amazon?

Blaming someone else just so you can divert the attention off of yourself is something a 6-year-old does. Anyone blaming the rank and file is an egotistical asshat who knows nothing about leadership.

Major down turn happened when they moved Otis up to start looking at the cuts...his ego is bigger than most people....Demos took the hit for Otis's ideas....can't remove Otis...he is smart enough to use the race card against them.

It's not Ron's fault the company has been in a downward spiral for 8 years. It's the fault of the long tenured, highly paid GMs

I agree, Ron needs to go. Staples has been in a downwards spiral since 2008. His poor performance over the last 8 years, coupled with the failed buyout and the low stock price should be enough for the BoD to finally oust him. If he was in any other position with such a losing track record he would of been fired years ago. The BoD is either stupid or he has leverage against them so they keep him in place.
