In the past few years I had thought about leaving Intel occasionally, but never seriously considered it; this time it hits me. My job is safe now and will likely remain safe in the near future: I've got 4 SSL2 in the last 4 years, work at a big campus and the project I'm working on is vital (at least according to the strategy announced by BK). My manager and coworkers are very nice and I enjoy working with them, but the upper management is disappointing. I used to suspect they didn't have a clue regarding Intel's future (especially since BK took over), this big layoff just confirmed it. I will keep working professionally from now on, but it is time for me to be prepared for finding another job. If a new round of layoff comes in the next 1-2 years, I'll happily take the VSP...

thoughts on intel's anonymous feedback on your manager
for whom still in intel or new at intel, be cautious on this feedback system. The supposed anonymous feedback makes things even worse! Because those managers can guess who rated him what and if there are only small pool of suspects, for example 2, and one of them left intel. Then whom stayed will take the blame and the manager does take this personally! No blame of him, just pity (and even his trusted old staff called him chicken!)

Enjoy your life as much as you can and layoff is just another thing we gotta enjoy sometimes. Part of the life and if you survived from the cut this time just go get yourself ready for the next one comes next year.

Yes. I have co-workers who have survived 6+ layoffs. It has always been stressful, but they have also always ended up in better positions, been able to pay off their homes, and take care of their families.I have bills to pay, little savings, and need to stay the course for now. At this point, it would be harder to leave and acclimate to a workplace culture and processes than it would to stay at Intel and find a new project.
I'm seeking out work in other departments doing fun and interesting projects. I'm not terribly interested in being left with the resulting carnage of my department losing projects, which is why I'm looking at doing something in a different department. Clean-ish slate.
