LM MST has announced a voluntary layoff package available to senior personnel who do not fall into some twenty or so categories. That's the carrot, the stick is involuntary layoffs in a couple of months. Wonder how it will all turn out.

About 390 took the voluntary option. Another 350 were hit by the involuntary.
Still no takers! Perhaps people are afraid of the Lockheed Martin Disciplinary Brigades... Anyway, the involuntary plans are leaking out and it looks like a smaller number will be impacted than originally forecast. However, at many MST locations, there is no "lack of work" which leads one to believe that this "culling of the herd" must be for other reasons... enhance profitability? Wall Street loves layoffs, after all... Well, at least they did offer a voluntary first.
I guess nobody wants to jump in on this. I can't believe that nobody from Lockheed Martin GE Loral IBM Federal Unisys etc wants to comment. Anyway by now I think the deadline to sign up has passed, so now it is up to Very Senior Management to decide if the number of volunteers is sufficient to diminish the need for an involuntary reduction in force. And as Rahm Emanuel (or somebody) said, Never waste a good crisis!
