Having spoken to a "survivor" this week, there's an dark cloud that is providing angst and stress.

I was one of those laid off. I was not a low performer as someone referred us as. I had excellent performance reviews. 5 out of 9 people in my group were laid off. I don't say mean things about those that are left so please don't tear down those who lost their jobs. The job market is challenging and it may be your turn next.
How long before the axe of excellence falls?
Yes. More layoffs this summer. "Low performers" are now gone, next will be a re-org to determine right size of Williams (merged or unmerged). Expect more leadership to face the axe in the next round. A review of each area having its own leadership chain of command will probably also be undertaken -- can commercial answer to a central exec in Tulsa or Houston, for example...
