One of my friends, who is very smart, hard working and the nicest guy I know of, got ISP. because he had to take medical leave and his manager dinged him for that. What a thug that manager is?!

Oh, you absolutely CAN get dinged for MLOA or any other kind of supposedly protected leave. The current ranking system is very vulnerable to this kind of abuse. The affected employee simply gets a lower stock grant with no notification or warning or explanation beyond "you did less than your peers." You will be labeled as a marginal employee and you will be summarily dismissed.
Intel HR needs to open their eyes. And not because this is unfair. But because they are opening themselves up to a host of legal problems. Idiots.
