Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I received an ISP and was kicked out of the building in the most inhumane way imaginable.

I was a grade 9 with 18 years of service at Intel. From the time I was delivered the ISP news by HR to when I was out of the building, it took only 20 minutes. They only allowed me to go to my desk while escorted by my manager to get my car keys, return my laptop, and leave. They denied me getting my personal items; they'd ship them to me. While I was going through my desk in a rush trying to salvage whatever personal items I could with my manager standing next to me and my colleagues watching me, nothing I wanted more than the world ending for me right there. I experienced the most humiliating event of my life yesterday at Intel. From the CEO to the VP of my organization, they kept talking about offering "world class package" and the respect and dignity we deserved. How deceitful. I was just short of being put in handcuffs and be escorted by security for receiving ISP. I am highly educated and with my experience I will find a job in no time, if I decide to get back to the workforce. But, after devoting 18 years of my life to this company and at the end being treated like trash has scarred me for ever. I am hoping this case was personal and isolated, but I'd like to hear your experience being delivered the ISP news.

This is a very isolated event, if not exaggerated. I've witnessed people really being treated with respect this last couple days. Intel is handling a bad situation the best they can, but that's the easiest target to lash out at I guess

You should of had all your personal items in the car; none at your desk. Your computer and cell phone should have been scrubbed of all personal files and data beforehand. If you survive, you can move it back in later.

That's horrible.. I'm 30 plus years at Intel and this swung me 100% to take the ERP.... No excuse for that bullshit.. I'm embarrassed for the company I used to love.

I wouldnt take it so hard and personal. Its the way business works. Anyone who feels they are worth anything more than just a number to a huge company like this sets themselves up for such a situation to occur. There are worse things in life.

This CEO will last. This is exactly what the board likes for them to do. As long as he executes to their plan for profits they will keep him on. He's the puppet. All CEO's are these days.

Most people have not gone back to their desk because it has this effect on people. I presume you insisted on not letting your manager get it for you as offered. If not, that was not a good choice by the people helping you.

It's never a good idea to have a laid off employee packing items in a work area.

Unfortunately I don't think you are the only one. I heard many people were treated in this manner. Many with 15+ experience with Masters in EE in some cases. It is such a sad day for this company. I don't think this is the end of it either. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. I don't think this CEO will last. Hopefully he will be kicked out in another year or so..

Not sure what they think people are going to take unless they are worried about a law suit and people copying files which maybe they will say they non longer have emails etc..

I feel sorry about hearing such stories. I am wondering what the people who are still left to work at Intel are feeling. Will they continue to work those long hours seeing how quickly they can be taken out and replaced?

I'm sorry about your experience. It sounds awful. I would have to go into therapy to recover after going through something like that.
