Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

In response to 100% relocating discussion.

1) DuPont had 650 employees just 18 months ago, and at that time we were subjected to the "secret layoff" that Intel kept quiet (or tried to ). 300 people were affected, I am fuzzy on the particulars ...memory fading ... but it goes along the lines that half needed to a) make an extremely quick life altering decision (if offered) and relocate within less than 2-3 months. Many did not get favorable relocation assistance, because you had to be certain grade level to get the relo package. So of the 300 "promised" a job that awaited them in Oregan (with housing on average $150,00 to $200,000 more expensive then the DuPont area) I can only assume a rather significant portion did not take that relocation, and instead opted for a severance. 2) Point is, they will probably be doing the same again, with same results. Most likely much worse results. Because who in there right mind would want to relocate to a corporation that has treated DuPont employees to what has been EXTREME unpredictability and job security ... on top of the Cost of Living changes, and the overall stress. It has been hard .... very hard ... non stop stress for last 5 years.

My thoughts are that local management they want to save jobs through relocating but corporate is dictating the numbers. That might be the disconnect.

Sorry to tell you that engineers area commodity in this day and age. Excellence is subjective.

I wonder if that layoff number has gone up to meet targets, just based on the news statement from the mayor. Or the company might have been giving him a conservative estimate. When do you all get notified as to who goes?

In the meeting it was said that Intel wanted all of us (Dupont) to relocate to Oregon. They never said we WOULD be relocated. There is a difference. Internally I am hearing a 25% number will be asked to relocate. I believe it will be more if they reach the 12000 layoffs quickly or less if they still need more layoffs. The moral is poor. Dupont went from a center of excellence 2 years ago to the chopping block. Not many at Dupont have any confidence in Intel anymore.

What was your experience?

I used to work at DP and start to concern about my colleagues there. There are not that many companies in that area. People have to move or travel to work.

Sounds like they lied to a bunch of people about relocating. Or the people misunderstood.

Base on my experience you may only get the severance.

Well this news has it as they are 350 being laid off. That would be the same as the internal story.

100% relo for DuPont is what was being reported on the news this morning but internally I'm hearing no relo AND employees get severance with NO option to go into the pool or transfer to another group of there is an opening.?!! Does anyone know for sure what the facts are with DuPont?

The dupont site was supposedly 100% relocating.
