Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

Did anyone file and get the unemployment benefit payments from Texas workforce commission? Are we eligible to get this benefit?

Does severance package affect the eligibility of receiving unemployment benefit?

It's not up to SWN. It's a benefit you worked for and are entitled to.

I don't think SWN likes ex employees to file unemployment.

You could have filed as early as 3/23. I just received my $958.00, direct deposited. My first filing, i did not check the box for direct deposit and they sent me a debit card. Google Texas Workforce Commission and open an account. SWN paid Un-employment insurance for all to use if terminated without cause. Since this was a layoff, we're all good.

Yes, file! You can do it online. The instructions are pretty straightforward. They will let you know what you need to do to be eligible each week -- the number of job search activities required. You keep a log, but you don't turn it in unless they ask for it. You have to request a check every two weeks. That request will ask if you earned any money during that period. If so, that amount will be deducted from your check. That will extend the amount of time your benefit will last as you are eligible for a fixed amount. When that amount has been paid to you, your unemployment benefit is finished. Mine will run about six months if no deductions for money earned are made. I think direct deposit is required (maybe not), and you have the option of having taxes withheld.

Yes, I filed and have received payments. The severance payment didn't affect my eligibility.
