After 6 years at Intel and two promotions later, I am seeking new employment even if I survive the layoff. I came into Intel as a bottom level tech with no associates degree and worked my way up to an ET for a development group. After Intel paying for my education I thought i would retire from here. Im 32 years old and now questioning the stability of the company. I see a lot of people who put years of hard labor and have it all ruined by one bad review. Im about 70% sure I need to find a replacement, Im not willing to wait for them to tell me to go. I figure its better to start looking for a better job while im employed. I had 9 straight consecutive years of EE/O and promo every 24 months, even got an out of cycle in 2006 during SET (before your time, it was the 10K layoff). Then I had a bad review in 2009, was not an IR but it wasn't EE or O that I had always achieved, and I was never able to recover from because after that one review I was "tainted". I left after 15 years of working there..get out now before you get impacted because once you get hit by an action you get marked as ineligible for rehire which also impacts your prospects elsewhere. It only gets worse. I'm happier than I've ever been! Intel is great as a vehicle to get what you need, but long-term it's no longer a place to be a "lifer". The only thing I miss are my colleagues, and many of them have left in the last couple of years as well...best of luck to you!
Yeah, it's a morale killer for sure. I've seen the same, excellent hard working people get involved in one mix up which may or may not have been their fault and whamo, they're gone. Hard to work for a place with such limited loyalty, that's for sure. It creates a culture of back stabbing and dishonesty.
