cost cutting measures were primarily of targeted employees lay-offs, salary cuts, reduced salary bench mark for lateral hires, demoting certain segment of the employees from their position (as happened in Infosys India), stretching office hours to 10+ hours per day as a standard norm, overloading managers with multiple projects in the name of flexibility. The list goes on. This has obviously created a stir and uneasiness in employees across the industry.

During recession times, Indian employees obviously had no choices and swallowed these bitter doses just to hang on to their respective jobs, hoping that their miseries will end with the economic revival. But when the economy started picking up, employees started looking out for better prospects outside. Companies who were anticipating the growth in industry were also anticipating the attrition considering the stringent and unfriendly policies towards the employees. But instead of relaxing the stringent policies and giving any breather to the employees, they started indulging in shocking and highly unethical practices with the help of Nasscom.
