my husband got the notice today that he's being laid off. 2 weeks notice. they told him "we over-hired last year".
what about my family?
we have a child and i make pennies a year at a nonprofit. this is terrible. i feel so despondent.

How do you layoff someone who has a project lined up? Can that happen? I landed a project 24hrs before I got a notice saying I was being laid off. Start date was the Monday after.
Sorry to hear this. We do indeed overhire often, it's all demand driven and it's easy to plan for something and to later find out that the plans will not materialize. At that point you are left with no options as there is simply no work that would sustain such a large team.
