Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Good luck to everyone

A little over a year ago, Saudi Arabia said that they were going to put the "marginal producers" (AKA US shale producers) out of business. They then proceeded to increase their output by 1 million bpd and swamped the oil market. If a US producer had done this, they would have been drawn, quartered, sued, and prosecuted. Being that they are the biggest oil exporter in the world, nobody said a word.

I retired last week. I am really not that upset about it because I got a good package and was planning to leave anyway in the next couple of years. However, I know that not everyone is in that situation, which really makes me sad.

I don't blame APC senior management. They are trying to keep the company afloat under attack from the Saudis. They held off longer than nearly all of the other companies, and the cut was smaller than most.

I don't blame HR. They had a tough job. You could not pay me enough to do what they do.

I don't blame the people who got to keep their jobs. They are still my friends and I want them to be successful.

However, I do pray that those people who lost their jobs and have mortgages, kids in school, and credit card debt will quickly land in a good career spot.

I pray for the service company people who lost their jobs, as they got hit really hard.

I pray that those who are bitter because of the layoff will find peace.

I pray that those left in our shrinking US oil and gas industry will be successful at fighting off this outside threat.

And I pray that Anadarko will grow and be successful. It is still a great company with great people. And besides, I don't want to sell my APC stock at $48/sh!

Best Wishes to you all!

O&G people are like cockroaches. They scatter when the light comes on, but will be right back when the price gets right. Might be some new company names, but they will be right back doing it again. Might not be next year, but just as soon as conditions are right, it will be business as usual.

It's going to be like the 80's though- a lot of experienced individuals are going to move on and leave the business. A ton of experience was lost in the 80's and this is going to make the problem even worse.

Vomiting can often provide relief and make you feel better. Cast in point, the last reply, a rambling stream of non sequiturs. Feel better now, sweety?

Huh if there was a real God I mean a Real God, Muslims would not have oil or need it.....so much for God and 4670+ sects of Christinty in the USA. I WENT TO CHURCH a lot every week as a kid, at least every Sunday now. Non church goers got to keep their jobs. Shouldn't non beliver get laid off first.?

Ps I am downsizing one car, moving to a smaller city. I don't need all this stuff, 1400 sq feet is better than 4000.

Not aginst religon, just don't get it. Cheers

I don't understand how someone with even a basic education can come up with what you just wrote. Saudi produces oil and increases their production, U.S shale producers also produce oil and increased their production even more over the past few years and yet Saudi is to blame?

I am grateful that there are people out there who are considerate and kind even during the worst of circumstances. My spouse was able to keep his job and while we are very grateful we are saddened for those who are no longer working and wish to be. We will also keep them in our prayers. I understand that not everyone believes in God and prayer but everyone should at least be hoping and wishing the best for all. Thank you for an uplifting post and a reminder of what is good in the world.

Hard to blame the Saudis for this one - it was just a smart strategic move on their part. North American producers were stealing market share and the OPEC nations were willing to play hardball. Business is a game - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I just try to work hard, be smart, put my faith in God, and hope for the best.

Kill or be killed. Pray all you want. There is no God. There is only my hedge fund position, my car, my house. The rules we all agreed to abide by have randomly picked winners and losers. I am not better than anyone else but I did just win the lottery. It is a zero sum game. For me to thrive others must perish. So be it.
