Exactly what I did. Turned a life long hobby into a business and is thriving now. My own hours, more family time, and I do what I want with my product. Of course I'm completely out of the semiconductor industry which and now my clients come to me. Don't have to hunt them down. But yes, self employed is a great way to look at it. All these big companies getting restructured, bought, etc. For 13 years I feared layoffs in that field. Miserable... Broadcom prior to Avago talks was a fun place to be. Glad I was cut. Pushed me to get my business started.
