Ha! So true, I was just about to say this...whenever I was asked what I do for work (ex-employee) I was a little ahsamed/embarrassed to tell someone that I work at State Street. Typically the reponse from the other person would be "I'm sorry to hear that". Mind you this is post 2008, before that the situation wasn't as harsh.
Also, have you noticed how peers react when someone gets a job outside the company? It's "You are so lucky!" and "I'm super jealous" and "Congrats, you escaped!".
I too remember when people who envious when you said you work at State Street.
It was the company everyone wanted to work for because of its excellent pay and benefits.
Recruiters would constantly call asking workers about any openings in their dept.
Hell some recruiters would offer to pay you for information about job openings.
Now if you say you work at State Street people say " Oh I am so sorry for you " How do you put up
with the stress and fear of constantly yearly layoffs
