CEOs (and VCs) routinely make bets on products or markets being HUGE. Projects are staffed up and big $$$ is spent on R&D. After a few years, the project succeeds or craps out (most likely). No matter how hard everyone worked, your fate is determined by how well the CEO (or VCs) guess (or timing) was.
