It looks like more layoffs are starting today... again, no consideration for those who have given many years of service. It's really unfortunate the way they are handling this and it shows little respect for those being laid off and those left behind. It's disappointing.

I totally agree with you. No respect. And they would rather keep their Outside Services instead of retaining good employees, in some cases paying millions of dollars per year as oppose to keeping full time employees.
As for communications, that is really bad. And it's probably worth looking in to the WARN act since I don't have the full details of the layoff count per site.
From first hand knowledge, the no consideration is true. Being pulled into a group setting and being told you're out; no compassion, no concern, devoid of any emotion, no concern whatsoever. That is where I think the lack of consideration comment comes into play from the previous poster. When John Hammergren made such a broad statement well over a month ago about upcoming cutbacks and layoffs, essentially putting EVERYONE on notice, it was done unnecessarily. 300+ people in Jax alone have worried daily for weeks now about possibly losing their jobs; some have been physically ill over it. And for what? For them to let go of a handful here and there in each department? It was parlayed that everyone needs to have their affairs in order, when in reality they've known since the announcement was made who was being let go and who wasn't. (It's also unfair to those who remain to have had this looming over their heads for so long) Where's the iLead and iCare in all of that? Yes, there's a severance in place and for the most part it's a wonderful thing, I don't think that's the complaint at all. It's the fact that there are folks who've been more than dedicated to their jobs that are being let go and those who've put in less time, effort and dedication are safe. It's well known that if you aren't in the cliques that you don't matter. The layoff's today proved that. It's easy if it's not you getting the boot to sit back and say MCK Is being fair by giving notice and severance, but if it were you, I bet your tune would be a little different (some people were told today that their severance starts tomorrow, some let go on the spot with no severance, others got lucky with 2 weeks or more). With all that said, it's a sad day, and as another poster signed for their name PSS was fun - this place isn't.
Two people in home office finance just got the boot. Both had been here 10+ years. One was a Sr. Manager.

Not sure who the crystal ball comment was directed to but in Richmond everyone who is being let go has been told as have those groups that are losing team members.
To the poster under this post, I'm glad you have a crystal ball to know who is getting laid off and who isn't. How do you know who isn't and who is getting laid off?
The financial benefits are really nice and not required and appreciated. It's more about they way they are communicating the whole process to employees, especially those that are not being laid off. It makes it very tense and uncomfortable.
I agree and think Mckesson is being more than fair. Especially for the ones getting laid off in "at will" state. Mckesson could have just fired you and you go on your way. They are giving people money to make sure they will be taken care of for a little bit. Proper planning goes a long way, not only in business, but with your personal finances too.
To lose one's job is a terrible thing and people are obviously emotional but how exactly is the company going about it in a bad way or paying no consideration to those being let go? Those I know of are getting a month to leave, 2 weeks severance, and another two weeks severance for every year of service. As most who have been let go appear to be long serving employees, in most cases the severance is lasting several months. Layoffs are by definition a bad thing but to describe the way McKesson is executing these layoffs as particularly bad strikes me as unfounded.
Jacksonville, Richmond, Alpharetta, San Francisco, and 1 of the Texas offices are all affected by this round of layoffs.
I concur with the OP, very little if any consideration is being given to those who are being let go. That's what happens when a company gets greedy and buys too many other companies too fast. They don't have the funds to support it so they outsource jobs overseas for cheap and end up letting good quality dedicated folks go. Many who have been here 15-30+ years - gone without so much as a second thought.
Any idea which locations are being effected?
