Stand up for your rights. CEOs should not profit over your job loss.

"some corporate department is left with less people than they need to do the work"

Of course not.

Corporate's philosophy is that the remaining staff in any given department that suffers payroll cuts

and / or lay offs will work harder to keep there own jobs. So the aspect of a department being shorthanded is all relative.

So I hate to ask a stupid question but I wonder if it is like the store level, and now some corporate department is left with less people than they need to do the work. I got to think that us the case. I can't imagine the bad guys going but can believe them trimming out good productive people to say look at the money I saved!

Layoffs will keep coming people - this company is in a death spiral. No one matters expect the C-level execs and they are making sure they eventually walk away with as much as possible.

They will continue to lay people off in small waves to avoid having to report to DoL and bad press.

Record any interaction with your supervisors and get anything important in writing - promises, deadlines, etc.

Furthermore - it is coming up on annual evaluations. Those that were laid off and receive severance will be the lucky ones. They will use bad evals to place you on a PIP that you can't recover from, then terminate you and try to deny you UI. Even if you have received good reviews in the past, and have no write-ups or note to files, verbal warnings, they can and will nail you on your performance appraisal. It is a proven method of operation for Staples.

If you suddenly get a bad review this year make your supervisor justify every single negative remark and ask why there have been no previous mention of the issue. Do not sign off on it - take it to HR.

If enough people challenge them they may concede to some changes.
