Just curious... Did anyone talk to HR about volunteering, but not get laid off?

Not me. My boss said I was too valuable to let go.
Anadarko's reputation as such a great place to work is managed by weeding out the employees who are not vocal cheerleaders. The company should have gotten rid of anyone who wanted a package but I notice a lot of grey-heads were picked off yesterday, undoubtedly the more expensive employees. Anyone who volunteered for a package will probably be on a list.
She can be fired later with no severance. That is the common technique practiced by the oil patch right now. Did this at Marathon this week and last. Devon did a similar step around the volunteers and they are walking paranoid nervous wrecks.
My wife volunteered to leave as she has been very stressed out by things going on, yet they did not lay her off. Also just heard of another person in the same situation. Can't believe that they are getting rid of good people who need their jobs, when others are volunteering to take the severance and go...
