My father of 63 was let go this morning. He's worked the industry over 40 years and had finally climbed his way to a cushioned (but still demanding) position, and he could retire in 2 years feeling accomplished. Instead of retiring with dignity, he gets laid off, all company belongings stripped, (I know it's protocol but still harsh!), and that's his end of an era. He's not done paying the house yet, and is now faced with same "what next?" feeling I'm sure everyone else is. I feel terrible for everyone who got the axe, and pray that all find peace with this situation- as I am struggling to do so for him. He's given so much, and this is his return.
If Anadarko was manager top heavy before it is now more so as it appears that most layoffs were the little people, the workers. I don't know how directors can justify these managers with so few reports. Mind boggling but I guess the real information gets filtered going up. Exec only hears what the directors tell them and have no idea of what really goes on.
That sounds like most managers and directors at Anadarko....
Others came to me that had worked under him and expressed concern when we had a management change and he was to become our manager. We never clicked and I made all attempts to have a good relation with him. His facial expressions and body language let me know when we received our first announcement that I would most likely be on the chopping block so he can bring in someone more like himself. He's been around a long time and really doesn't know much about anything and couldn't find work elsewhere but is a big schmoozer to his manager who is also part of this tight knit group that's probably been at Anadarko too long retarding progress. Only thing I can say is Anadarko talks about new blood and doing things differently, becoming a global competitor, but with managers like mine (who shot down my ideas and showed no interest in my work), they will continue to remain as they were 10 years ago.
Poster below,
In your comment about how well you got along with your manager, was that your deduction, or is that what they told you?
By that same token, it should be fair that managers who didn't get along with their subordinates or were not effective should be held to the same standard, but we all know life & fairness don't go together.
I have and it went fine, great package. Manager came in read me that it was the economy and not him or personal and in the end it wasn't really about your skills, experience, or how hard you work, it was about how well you get along with your manager. Nothing to do with Al or Execs as your manager tried to tell you. Good luck to all that got laid off and everything happens for a reason.
Got laid off. Very respectful and I could tell the managers who did it were having a rough time having to do it.
live on one check, save the other unemployment times.
I'm in production in Wattenberg, was just told we lost 3 out the 7 guys in my group. They will be missed, and the ones remaining will have tough and confusing days ahead of them.
How do you know you're safe?
Sorry, we is my family. Husband works for APC
Good luck everyone!
