Seems like a company such as Anadarko could have least offered an early retirement package to folks like your dad. Lockheed Martin has done just that so that when the upcoming layoffs happen, those folks get something for all their time and work over the years.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad being let go 2 years shy of retirement. Although my husband isn't in oil and gas, he experienced a similar situation this time last year. There is no respect for experience at this time, no matter the industry. Hopefully, they at least offered him a good package. Wishing your father and family all the best.
My father who is 63 years old was laid off early this morning. Although he knew his age was a factor from the beginning, he is still very capable and has dedicated his entire life to this industry. Over 40 years experience, and two years left until retirement and he gets the boot! They already went for the truck, cell phone, and credit card. I feel terrible this is the thanks he gets for decades of hard work. I pray for a good severance package for the man.
Kind of silly to just keep your friends and not the good workers. Just means more work and explaining for the manger in the long run

I was laid off & concur 100% with the other poster. It clearly was not "high level" decisions. The relationship with your manager played a heavy role. It's glaringly obvious after the cuts I've seen. Those that have been taken care of were still taken care of. Good luck to everyone.

I have and it went fine, great package. In the end it wasn't really about your skills, experience, or how hard you work, it was about how well you get along with your manager. Nothing to do with Al or Execs as your manager tried to tell you. Good luck to all that got laid off and everything happens for a reason.
