Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

As as always - Things are getting worse at a faster pace.

-Too many cooks in the kitchen.

-Too much effort not going toward the bottom line.

-Too fat with management that is never aligned.

-Too many rogue silos.

-Preach industry leadership but play follow the leaders (ex. Big Fracs).

-Tendency to over-complicate even the most simple concepts.

Advice to Management

Listen to your people. Stop preaching leadership and slapping it back into place when it's presented. Focus on the bottom line and stop splitting hairs over things that do not matter. We are here to find and produce oil and gas, I think. Not doing this led to too many hires for useless positions resulting in heavy G&A costs. Make decisions based on technical merit and stop doing it based on gut feeling and the assumption that it will work because it worked in a different play.

The interns were laid off. It would have been nice if they would have given them more notice so they could find other work. One and a half months is not a lot of time. Really hurt a lot of kids with their late planning.

This kind of brings up a good point. Devon should go ahead and release the interns that are scheduled to work should be released from any commitment. We should not be bringing them in and having any of the expect to be hired on after the internships.
