The first week I was upset. After that I really started enjoying the time off. I have a job lined up and it has been really nice. So yes I do feel really lucky to get let go when I did. It has been a really great experience. For those that have never had the experience it is nothing like you think. For the guy that thinks we are lying to save face, you have no idea what you are talking about. It has been a week since I checked the price of oil and it is wonderful. I don't give a care that the price of gas is so low any more and I hope ot stays low forever. Reading some of the comments here it is clear that that stress still exist and people are afraid they are still going to loose their jobs. So yes I do feel lucky.

Not necessarily true @3gvm. I was "let go" and immediately scheduled a tropical vacation to "figure things out". I threw out a couple of resumes before I left, and by the time I got back I had an interview lined up. It was outside the industry, and the pay was less - by $800 a year (after 5 years at Devon). I started on Monday and LOVE it!!! I may be the exception but I definitely enjoyed being laid off, and now getting severance and a paycheck. Just remember people, if your skills are not O&G specific, then there is life after Devon. Oh, and I will get to spend a lot more time with my family

No one enjoys being laid-off, it is extremely stressful searching for a job everyday. The people telling you they are loving it are lying to save face. The people that still have their jobs are the lucky ones. Just work hard & I'm sure your job will be fine.

There are NO jobs in the O&G world right now. If you are lucky enough to find a job in a different field it will pay less.

On my floor there were people who were laid off, but don't leave until August (give or take a month) As someone who got to keep my job, it is horrible going to work everyday and seeing these people because you just feel so bad for them. I literally take the route just to avoid them because I just don't know what to say, and these people were once my good friends. It is a horrible atmosphere here, and no one is a winner in this situation - @2exh - doom and gloom is spot on

Yeah, I sit at work all day wondering if the first wave victims were actually the lucky ones. A couple of my friends are enjoying severence, and 1 has a job lined up while I sit here still feeling like I can be tossed aside any minute

Unfortunately he is absolutely right. Another 10 to 15% by the end of June. Who knows maybe oil will bounce back, bit chances are we will be sitting, waiting for the ax to fall all year. It will be great for morale - the atmosphere has change already. Let the doom and gloom continue
