Reducing severance was such a low blow

Because it's become a horribly demoralizing place to work. You watch your colleagues get laid off, year after year, and you constantly wonder when you're going to be next. IBM pulls all kinds of tricks, including undeserved negative appraisals, just to get you to leave on your own so they can save money on severance. Guess they've decided to just reduce severance packages since they've run out of ideas to try to get people to quit. You have no idea how bad it has become within IBM. How in the HELL are executives getting bonuses for NOTHING? Look at the stock. This is why people in America are furious! These are the people that deserve to be fired for their failures, and they get bonuses! Disgusting!
I'm not the original poster, but I'll tell you why. Working at this company is incredibly stressful. You spend every day looking behind your back and worrying if you are next, while the company does increasingly hostile things to the employees (most likely to get them to quit so they don't have to provide a package). Every day sucks. You have to factor in every life decision with your family "what if I get fired in the next RA?" Honey, we need a new car. Nope, we probably shouldn't, I might get RA'd. It's a horrible way to live. Then you see the failure of a CEO rewarded with fat, multimillion dollar bonuses which is even more demoralizing - for performance she should get fired for! Many of those RA'd have decades of commitment to IBM, working nights, weekends, traveling and missing important family events. And before you say "find a job somewhere else" keep in mind that the RAs target mostly those over 50, tough to find a job in IT due to what's going on with the H-1B visa raping of US employees in IT, thanks to our bought and paid for politicians. So yeah, that's why finally getting the axe is a relief. You can finally get that burden and stress off.
