Thread regarding IBM layoffs

A Mouse (a Rat) That Jumped Ship at the Right Time

I fortunately saw the writing on the wall back in 2011 while at a large (unnamed) IBM facility having lunch with 25-30 year IBMers saying "they want to get rid of all of us (expensive) American workers." That and Ginny's "2015 Road Map" signalling huge layoffs. So wisely left to an outstanding IBM business partner doing EXACTLY the same job and a 30% raise. IBM used to be a great company, but today it's all about cutting/profits. Sad.

Many in The group I was in had the option of moving over to one of our clients. What was telling is that one who accepted the offer was a 25 year veteran of IBM.

Before I retired, employees with 10-15 years with IBM used to tell me that they couldn't understand the, "Walk on broken glass" dedication of us old-timers. I would always tell them that was because all of the reasons for that dedication were long gone. I retired in 94, and even then the employee was nothing more than an expendable commodity. You could be the best that they ever saw, but they would let you go in a heartbeat, hiring up to 3 newbies to do your job.

They know very well what they want to do, they want to milk the cash flow, and cutting payroll expense perfectly fits into this plan
