Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Managers are to blame

They sold their souls to the devil

Managers are out for themselves only

I haven't met one manager in my career with Devon that leads me to believe these people have any integrity

Devon Attrubutes are only measured at goal time the rest of the 360 days of the year they are just shit in water! Devon needs to learn a thing or two from continental

They are still going strong w zero layoffs because they care to take care of the people making them money! Reevaluate your management Devon Energy!!

Mismanagement and stupid decisions are made way higher up in the company than Managers. Do you really think Managers call their own shots? They are told what to do, and they follow directions to keep their jobs, just like you do! Place the blame where it belongs.

I couldn't agree with this post more. Once O&G goes back up, CLR would be a wonderful place to work. Well done on how they treat their employees. There are horrible managers @ Devon. I noticed the change in 2012, when managers weren't even on the same floor as employees anymore. The employees were monitored via technology which is not an accurate forecast of an employees performance.

The oil price is to blame. Make no mistake about it though if Devon had wanted to grind its way through this downturn they could have saved almost all the employees in Oklahoma City. They chose to sacrifice them for less debt, asset shifts and being in a position to take advantage of market turn around. Being a good Oil and Gas company has nothing to do with how loyal you are to your employees. Continental made a commitment to its employees to be loyal or go down trying. I admire this and as a former Devon employee can say this is the first time I have ever thought another company was better than Devon. Continentals management should be commended and I am sure their employees will remember this forever. Just like I am sure there Devon employees will rember how their management failed to make the same commitment to their employees. You can say it was the gas price all day long if you like, but the truth is it was a business decision that could have waited another year at the very least. The company would have survived and the price may have turned by that point.
