There will be no new hiring only a huge influx of interns in May. Cheap labor to do the clean up work and then layoffs of the FTEs in June. You will see a new contractors here and there but that is about it. Devon is more risk adverse now. It is a sad state of affairs. Still fat with bad middle management. The Devon of old died and some devil creature took it's place when Dave Hager took over.

Devon should offer every intern they laid off a check to help pay for school. They gave them such short notice they can not get another internship and some needed this not only to graduate but to pay for their schooling. I know many of these kids will never work for Devon. They lost the best. Devon screwed these kids bad. Shame on them.
Devon can go to hell. I was told by my recruiter not to worry about my internship and that a job offer would be given at the end of the summer. a--hole HR called us during spring break and told us to kick rocks. There's no chance I'll get a job now for the summer. I will never work for Devon again and tbey have no right to show their faces at any career fair anywhere. They're up sh-- creek. Might not survive the downturn. The tower will probably be called the chevron tower or the BP tower pretty soon.
Yeah, confirmed most of the internship offers were withdrawn Wednesday. I have not heard of any other company dumping their interns like this. Also as stated before these kids were given a very short time to commit and they turned down other offers (since Devon hires the best, amiright?) because they believed Devon was going to weather this storm and invest in filling the age gap.
Most of them probably would have taken a pay cut or slept at their desk instead of corporate housing and been the cheap labor if given the chance, Poor kids. Full times are ok though, none of their offers were pulled.
Actually all of the interns were let go. They asked these kids in September to commit in two days of being given an offer. They were let go one and a half months before they were supposed to come work. Many were using the funds to pay for school and turned down other opportunities. They were given nothing and are now scrambling to find internships or just a job for the summer. I am sure the Univetsities that opened their doors to Devon will not be asking them back to their job fairs in the future with out huge donations to the schools.
The interns were all laid off today.
Devon is NOT a good place to employed personnel. I was a contractor whom the USED and just threw away. NO Vacation pay, NO sick leave pay, NO holiday pay, NO insurance, NO BENEFITS OF ANY KIND including NO use of the exercise facilities even if I paid, and the restaurant discounts were NOT allowed for me since I was a contractor. Devon is more like Devil.
Some of the bad middle managers have worked their way to VP positions!
Yes agreed on the middle managers. There should be many more gone. The real workers do not need them to do their jobs.
