This is the deal, when oil field is good people just spend spend spend but when it gets bad they panic. When it was good, shoulda saved that nest egg because as we all know it, oil is like a roller coaster ride. It's fun going up but it sux going down

Reliable sources advise that everything will be pushed off until April 1. Then there will be a town hall meeting at which Uncle Al will solemnly step out and then yell, "APRIL FOOLS!!" There will be laughing and hugs and tears of joy ... and makeup sex.

Really. Gonna happen. I swear.

Having been through these in both medium (Lafayette) and large (Dallas and Houston) markets, it is never easy, and always hard to "chill out". Utah, you're right that people in larger markets have more opportunity in both O&G and other industries - In smaller places like Vernal, layoffs like these have a tremendous impact on the town, schools, stores, etc. While we're all in this together, I understand your pain. Best of luck to you, your family and friends.

Well Houston, I understand that is how layoffs work. What you seem to not understand is that probably 80% of our local economy where we are in Utah is oilfield related. So, there aren't as many options for finding other work. I am not trying to minimize the fear and the worry that anyone feels. I am just sick of being told to chill out. And, I am sick of hearing others say that it will only be a few weeks until we can find jobs. I know good oilfield employees in this area who are still looking after six or nine months because there are no jobs here.

Utah, that's pretty much how layoffs work in Houston too. And almost no one who has been in the industry a few decades has escaped them.

It's easy to tell others to chill out when you don't know their situation. Here in Utah things are rough. Anadarko is just the next in a long line of companies that have been laying people off. There have been hundreds laid off in the Uintah Basin and there aren't any jobs. We are a small community. So of course, people say things like just move on and go elsewhere. Hard to do when you have a home that won't sell because house prices have fallen and the market is saturated. Hard to do when you have elderly parents to take care of. Hard to do when your spouse has a decent job and your children are involved in things. So, how about you quit judging others for being worried and have a little empathy (or at least sympathy) for them and their situations.

I love the trolls on here including me. Yes it's not fun no one wants to get laid off. But the people who deal with the actual well didn't get all those amenities that all the corporate offices did... Kind of ironic treat the ones who don't get really get the revenue out of the ground great and the ones that do like crap. .. but advantage when this happens because you need that monkey to turn the valve.. go enjoy your amenities while you can

Yeah, 75% seems very unrealistic. Maybe from one dept but, can't be across the board.
