AKM gets indicted while many other CEOs and bankers went free during the 2008 mortgage fall and get paid bonuses. Then AKM obviously commits suicide and Chesapeake Energy stock goes up. WTF

I think the idea was that the legal overhang has gotten a lot smaller from the DOJ granting immunity to CHK with respect to this particular allegation. But I am not so sure if it's that cut and dry. There are potentially others that may be uncovered. If anything, I would be more worried that with one cockroach, there are more. I am surprised there have been no resignations at CHK yet b/c there were others involved with McClendon who are still at CHK. Even if they got a deal with the DOJ in exchange for cooperating or bringing up the violations in the first place, it would still be odd to keep them at the company. So I think there is more going on behind the scenes. One key question is - who is going to pay the damages to the landowners that got screwed over? Someone has to pay.
