Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

The Tower is leaning

So have you noticed how quite it is in the tower now. We still have a lot of buzz going on with getting the new organization in place. It is still oh so very very worry some that we have more cuts coming. We’ll lose the Doc and the price of the Well will go up. Next is salary cuts. You know that’s coming. Now that we have been chosen as the crème of the crop they feel they have us locked. The OKC market is flooded with people looking for jobs and they know we won’t be able to leave because there are no jobs here or anywhere in the Oil and Gas industry. Ok a few in Accounting and IT could depart easily. Mark my words, a 25% salary cut and then more job cuts in June if the price of Oil is under $40. The worst is yet to come and this place is going to be a real downer. Party Over !!

Can you share where your job offers are? Or at least what field you are in? Finding a good paying job is not happening for me yet. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The comment of most of the best employees were already gone reflects on poor management.

"we have been chosen as the crème of the crop" - the creme has mostly left. What remains is the young, lesser-paid, inexperienced, will do as told without question, kids.

So for you IT people. I don't know if you have noticed but those of us that left are not having a hard time finding other work. The job market is not as flooded as people like to say. I have had several offers and I am not in a real hurry to jump Into a job to quickly. I for one am glad to have been let go now. No more stress about the price of oil or wondering if I am going to get hammed the next go around. For those that are still working on the fourth floor, hang in there and if you do get let go it a sweet deal.

I think we all feel there will be more cuts. I've heard it said and it could be true, the first ones out might be the lucky ones. All O&G businesses are looking at their bottom line each month and must adjust accordingly. It's just business. No one is promised a life long job.

Managers sold their souls to the devil. Lied the entire time but hey as long as they are able to keep their jobs, live in their 400k dollar Edmond homes and take care of their wife and kids that's all that really matters. To hell with the rest. No integrity where management lies!

Cream of the crop lol. This round of cuts in oil and gas has little to do with keeping the best. It's more about keeping employees who are more willing to take it up the ass in the way of random pay cuts and more workload. Have fun. Most of the best employees are gone. Oil and gas is no longer the cool place to be.
