Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Shell moving some jobs from New Orleans to Houston

http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2016/04/shell_jobs_moving_to_houston.html

Shell will relocate some jobs from New Orleans to Houston as it moves forward with plans to cut its global workforce by 10,000 employees and contractors. The company started cutting jobs last year in response to low oil prices.

Details are sparse on how the global cuts affect the roughly 1,900 workers based in One Shell Square in downtown New Orleans. Shell says it does not provide layoff counts by region. Workers close to the situation have reported that jobs may be moving to Houston in addition to cuts. They asked not to be named to protect their jobs.

Shell plans to compress OSS up to 10 floors, likely empty out 8. They'll plan to remain in the city for years to come. Could always use as business continuity site if Houston gets a severe hurricane strike or incident. The other fallback site is up in Brazos Valley . Knock on wood no city is ever dirty bombed or hit by a Cat5. Katrina weakened to a Cat3 with a hell of a 30 ft storm surge.

Absolutely agree, we call my boss the squid because of his lack of anything remotely resembling a backbone. Totally political animal, throws his folks under the bus if any power player says anything against them or something they did. Never backs his people in anything, total lack of moral fiber. And he is one of the better ones at the site where I work!

Spot on. The lack of moral fiber and integrity in the "new" GOM LT is staggering. Never met a bigger bunch of gutless sycophants.

What can you expect from a company as poorly run as Shell? Piss away almost 8 billion on a pipe dream, managers with no backbone or concern for those they "lead", other managers about as "authentic" as a 3 dollar bill who fold under the slightest pressure into screaming idiots (and then get promoted!), and those who "lead" from their ivory 6th floor tower without ever going to the real world to see what the plebes are doing. Yeah can't imagine why this company is in trouble and slashing headcount.
