I have read several posts over the last couple of months regarding layoffs. Despite some sarcasm in some of them, it really seems that Micron, due to their heavy investing in Asia and because of a large amount of are work loss have created an atmosphere of uncertainty in the stateside operations. Many employees need their jobs and want to stay as long as they can. Others who have been here a long time would perhaps like to be laid off and go on to other things or retire. I don't think there is any question that the focus and the money(remember the raises went only to the employees oversees) and the future is in Asia. That being said we hope Micron has the integrity to do what is right by giving the people who want to leave the opportunity to do that with some compensation and let the remaining employees with enough work to keep them busy. Standing around all day or being given"special projects" that are not job related just to keep people"busy" is a total waste of company money and disrespectful to its employees. Am I right?

Sadly, this behavior happens in other sites as well. Supervisors are turning a blind eye to this kind of behavior, I think because the culture at Micron has changed. When the company puts its operations and its employees in those operations above those of us in the U.S, the workers here feel slighted and react accordingly whether right or wrong.
1deo, lol. My team and I saw your post today and we think we know who you mean. Is she the one who laughs loudly all the time and is always sucking up and joking around with higher level managers? Someone in my aisle sees her constant FB posts and said she must spend her entire day on FB chatting about shopping, parties, and how much she spends for things. We all laugh at how clueless she is if she thinks we don't notice. Like someone else said here, how does she get away with it? She is really just stealing money from Micron. Who is her manager to allow this?
I meant Intel, and the massive layoffs I mentioned yesterday would be announced soon have now been announced.
2nxr, what are you referring to when you say mother ship?
@-1deo: Before returning to the "mother ship", I saw similar examples of what you mentioned. I left because I was too bored at the office, wanted more to do all day, and could no longer stomach hearing the loafers complain that they are so busy when they really do only one day of work per week. As if we don't all know that they are surfing all day! I wonder how they get away with it for so long? Unfortunately, now at the mother ship we are bracing for massive layoffs to be announced at any moment. Maybe I should have stayed at Micron and surfed all day like the others. Nope, not me!
It's impressive how so many people at my site in California sit around with not enough Micron work to do. One lady in particular is widely known here for spending her day on Facebook and personal business. That's only when she is actually at the office and not "working from home" waiting for the mailman or preparing for parties or for vacations. She recently spent several days in a row at the office doing nothing but researching contractors for a new backyard after doing exactly the same last year researching contractors for a new bathroom. The point is that she openly takes advantage of Micron in part because she has nothing else to do. If that kind of behavior is as widespread at other sites as well, there is no way there won't be layoffs. Why wouldn't Micron want to move work overseas?
