Do you think that the company discriminates and lays off older workers #AgeDiscrimination

Age discrimination is alive and well in all companies, especially large corporations. If your 55, with 35 years of experience, seasoned, educated and very knowledgeable; it doesn't matter. You're too expensive, old, and, perhaps, not as "systems" proficient as you think you are. Statistics show that as many as 40% of all employees laid-off at 55 or older, spend 6 to 12 months looking for a job (even in this market), that pays 30+% less than what they were making. Also, as many as 50% change careers and "try" to make it to a reasonable retirement age. It is what it is....
I thought Lockheed Martin was better than this they should be ashamed of themselves after what I witnessed this week SMH.
Absolutely! At least Sikorsky did. I know of instances where an older person was put last on the competency list because of his age, it was not his direct supervisor, but the director of the program.
I worked for this company for 26 years and conveniently when i turned down a early retirement offer, i was laid off 2 months later. As part of your package, you sign an agreement that you will not sue them, they give you 5K. Need i say more
We seen this since Lockheed took over sikorsky also
The company mandated a 10% cost saving directive for all employees in 2017. (After demanding lower cost for the past 10 years)
That's either work for free some more or pass on some work to lower paid. Catch 22 is you get a yearly review saying you completed less work and thus a poor review. Save the program $ and lose your job.
Absolutely
Lockheed to pay 50 million for age discrimination.
I know they do I have seen it and later experienced it.
I know they do I have seen it and lster experienced it.
I was laid off after Obama cancelled the Constellation program, and age over 50 of course. However what they did is perfectly legal and they know that. This is how it works, they know that age discrimination is illegal so they cannot admit that they cut because of age. However they get away with it because there is no law against pay discrimination, that is the oldest workers are generally higher paid senior persons. So managers are told to cut the highest paid and by default they cut the oldest workers, get it. No law against getting rid of the highest paid people. They do get rid of very few younger as tokens however.
LM MST Moorestown laid off 50 as of July 27. 90% are age 50 and up, some with 20-30 years with the company. From talking with others who were laid off, their Managers just picked whomever they didn't get along with. You're hired 'at will' and can be laid off 'at will'. I was also laid off but I was only there three years. They are very top heavy with middle management. This was a "Save the Managers job" layoff.
One would have to be blind, deaf, and mentally deficient to believe there's no age discrimination. Who are you gonna believe, top management or you're lying eyes?
Yes.
About 80% of the people in my group that were laid off were over 50 years old.
Anyone 55+ with many years of experience is at the top of the list
I was laid off in August of 2014 from the Sunnyvale facility. There was a meeting where they introduced us to the state unemployment people, discussed COBRA, etc. I was the youngest guy in the room at 58, not including the HR person and the outside guests. Some people were voluntary, but some e.g. me, were not.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Lockheed has an Engineering Leadership Development Program that is not available to anyone with more than 3 years of experience. So senior people are not allowed to enter the leadership development program. They are putting inexperienced engineers into management positions. The ironic thing is most of them quit the company after they have been out of the program a couple of years.
Why should Lockheed Martin be any different? At least they are offering packages to entice people to leave voluntarily (according to news reports about LM Aero and unconfirmed rumors about LM MST)
