does anyone know if you volunteer to be let go, do you get a severance package, or did we all who volunteer just got hustled by the company?

Don't say anything, you are putting yourself in a really bad situation
Would talking to HR mean that you could be fired or laid off immediately? Do you know if you get unemployment benefits if you volunteer for lay off?
I believe you do, but you should check with HR. I know of an engineer in SJ who volunteered for layoff and received his severance package
