Returning to IBM after Layoffs

I wanted to share my experience – I came back after being RA’d a while ago (Midwest). I came back to my own building and I was shocked – this, once bustling place, was a ghost town. Three floors were closed and everyone was crammed on a single floor. If people leave, the positions are not filled, so there is some natural attrition and it’s eating into staffing levels.

The team itself demoralized to the point that their productivity is dismal. They are overworked, they feel underpaid. This is depressing, almost tragic.

Getting ID-ed and getting log-ins, system setup, is super slow – takes forever – this was bad before, now it’s horrendous. Every single element of my onboarding is depressing, yet I am very happy to come back as I missed my peers and I really liked my work.

I hope things turn around…

You made a very bad mistake coming back. The company is no where near what it used to be, and many of your peers are long gone. The company waiting too long to get into Cloud technologies, and competitors are leaving IBM in the dust. Run, run as fast as you can to a more stable company. IBM is in a spiral downward!
