President Carruthers announced to community leaders today at a meeting that 150 employees will be terminated to so called "right size" the university. NMSU spent hundreds and thousands of dollars to discover what staff already knew-they are not overloaded with staff. Also, NMSU cited RAISES ARE CONTINUING FOR FACULTY resulting from the Mercer study even though the same study suggested staff raises just to get to 25th percentile of market pay!! Carruthers in usual form not telling staff and faculty the truth, but announcing it to community leaders. I would say that the Regents need to fire the triad of Carruthers, Provost Howard, and Angela Throneberry-make that a foursome and include the most incompetent Bernadette Montoya-who have run the university into the ground, except the Regents are just as incompetent!!!

The hatchet falls on July 1st. They will merge departments in all colleges and ax 150 staff but no faculty. What a sh-- show NMSU has become.
So incredibly irresponsible fiscal management that included faculty raises (though needed desperately but at the worst time), no raises for staff (Regent Kari Mitchell and Carruthers who both said in a public meeting that the staff did get them), have led to terminating hundreds of low paid employees who don't have a voice or the luxury of tenure in a locality without jobs! Foolish administrators and deans who did not see the gutting of the policy manual that is now the Chancellor's and Provost's playbook. Foolish Chancellor who erroneously believes the myth of a losing football team (since 1962) brings anything more to NMSU than better academics would. I'll also point out that "students" and "academics" have ceased to be a part of any conversation at NMSU.
