I can't believe WMOS is on this site, but one of the biggest failures that I have seen. But then again over the last fees years there have been many failures. I am surprised that the whole WMOS team is still around, and getting promotions to boot!

"the reason will eventually leak out."

It's easy to figure out - some overpaid black belt at corporate did some common core math to show how much could be saved by laying off others in an effort to justify their own job. It's the name of the game in Framingham. Maybe somebody will do the same to shoe how much Staples could save by firing Ron and Otis.

The job eliminations are for all FC leads and DC leads. All lead new hires and moves were held until all those within the 90 days had expired - just so they could not move back down the chain. They can reapply after 5 months and keep their seniority. This can't be a cost savings move - think about it and do the math. Leads make an extra dollar an hour, that means this FC spends 720$ a month extra on lead pay; their going to be replaced with 3 sups, and 5 specialists. One sup alone is way more expensive than all the leads combined. This a horrible move and they will regret it over time, just like WMOS and SDO closures which cost them millions - wasted millions. Something serious or drastic must of happened somewhere for them to make such a move - the reason will eventually leak out.

Stand up for your rights. CEOs should not profit over your job loss.

Staples the ship that keeps on sinking year after year. Lots of job cuts and outsourcing. For all the employees who are still with the company yoy might want to start looking for a new job if you want to have a better future. Don't stay and waste your time because sooner or later your job will be gone.

They look at this the same way the do Ron's compensation vs. all the layoffs lately (especially considering the poor state of the company). Even if Ron's ttl comp was halved, the savings would not prevent the layoffs.

Not knocking capitalism or promoting socialism here, but all the execs compensation packages are to high for the performance of the company. Of course, their response would be that those on the front line are making to much and not working hard enough. They would be wrong.

RVPs and up (and some DMs) are to far removed to see how the lack of staffing affects stores.

The buyers SUCK. They all need to go. To much of the same crap no one buys. Especially on endcaps.

I know endcaps are prime real estate, and the company gets paid / discounts for product placement, but some of the crap they chose to put on endcaps makes no sense. Give GMs more discretion on what to put on endcaps.

Give stores the payroll for a solid off hours crew for stocking and merchandising. Giving bare minimum payroll and then telling associates that customer service is the priority and they cant perform tasks from 11-3 is just setting stores up to fail. Not knocking customer service, just saying you can't tell them not to do tasks and take four hours away from tasking and then scream at them for not being productive.

In finding out that the lead positions in the FC's are being eliminated, stupid move Staples. They are the back bone of the FC, and the only reason that the orders make it out the next day to paying customers. Lose them, and you have lost the battle. Supervisors can only do so much. But yet on the other hand, you have the RVP Butler in the northeast spending over $300 for a dinner for 2, on the company. Really smart, people getting laid off, and upper management abusing the expense policy. Stupid Staples.

I would agree with @GMOIPff-8fff , but the division leaders like to play a little game to cut costs in their departments to prove their own positions.

They don't care about the ones getting overtime because the point was to get rid of the higher paid (tenured/older) persons. Lower the average hourly rate. It's about spending the same amount on each location but to more (lesser paid) persons. They are not looking at quality, contribution, or even loyalty. They think in time they will all catch on and they will show more profit. What they don't get is that there is no one left to train them, coach them and enstill the a sense of culture. That will be gone and whomever is left will be lost, frustrated, stressed and end up quitting when they get no support. It's a catch 22, a never ending circle that will drive the company into the ground. Sad to see what so many hard working people worked so hard to build be kicked down with such disregard. Think of all the managers and supervisors who mentored you and how it changed your life path. Where would you be if they were never there.

Staples is a dying and desperate company. The only focus is raking in as much money as possible for the C level execs to pilfer from. Employee morale does not matter one bit. Turn over is encouraged. Even if Sargent is replaced, whoever comes in will simply be a vulture and make a large cash grab. Pretty much like Roland Smith is trying to do at Depot.

They have a hard time retaining people because they treat all employees like sh--!

Just to clarify a couple of things--the leads are not being "fired". Their job designation is being eliminated. It will be replaced by a "general supervisor" position that they can apply for and will have first crack at. The downside is that, at least in my FC, there are twice as many leads as there will be new positions. This leaves quite a few who will, in fact, lose their jobs. They will not be allowed to simply step back to a regular associate position, even in a different department. Corporate HR seems to think that others will still see them as leads and will keep going to them for guidance and considers this to be unfair to them. (More unfair than losing your job??) New leads, of less than 90 days, will be allowed to go back to their previous position.

Supposedly this came about as a way to eliminate complaints that associates can never find their supervisors, so the plan is to have a sup for every 15-18 associates. (How about not loading them down with so much BS work, get them off their butts and out onto the floor with their associates? We have sups who are out and about helping out wherever they can, and others who never stick their noses out of their cubes/offices.)

Any OT going on is due to ongoing other issues, but when the leads go it will only exacerbate that problem. The good leads do a tremendous amount of work. And most are usually more knowledgeable about their department than the sups are.

Leads who lose their jobs will be allowed to reapply after 5 months--before they lose their seniority. Still seems a questionable thing to do when some FCs have revolving door hiring, and are having a hard time retaining people.

Being laid off from Staples was the best thing that happened to me in the 20 yrs I worked there. I took there lousy severance package got a job 2 weeks later with the competition. Work less, make more $. That's how u Make More Happen!

I am confused, they are eliminating FC leads, but then allowing OT for other fulltimers to make up for the loss of productivity created by laying off the leads? Sounds like backwards thinking, must have been a Blackbelt that came up with the plan. Those are the people that need to go.

They are firing all their hard working leads that have been their back bone through out thier years. They won't allow them to step down either, meanwhile full time associates are doing massive overtime and they are hiring LIKE CRAZY !! Where is their Loyalty to their people that have made more happen through the years. How could they said we are a team and totally screw over these people. They should be totally ashamed of themselves . How a company can turn their back on their people is beyond me. They put locks on their outside doors one week before they broke the news to them as well, wonder why.

Really can't wait until we are reading about more DM layoffs, then RVP and up.

I know it can be said they "were just doing their jobs". But I have to disagree - layoffs are one thing

but the harassment and PIPS to drive good people out are quite another.

Most of these clowns are untouchable and have no chance of getting the equivalent position at another company so they will latch on until security removes them from the building.

These idiots are just understanding that fewer stores mean less need for them.

This is true accross the board. I am so glad I got out before this. 16 years I gave them and they sh-- on thier best employees and keep the lazy sh--ty employees. This company used to be good to work for they used to care about thier employees. Now it's just about thier dollar that matters. They will be out soon trying too hard to revamp and not taking care of the ones who have made you who you are. If you are offered the chance to get a new job elsewhere take it now don' t pass up a new place waiting for severence from a company that probably won't give it to you. Most states are at will now they don't have to give you a reason to let you go. Staples will definately use that to thier advantage.

It really should have been the SMs that were eliminated in the smaller volume stores. In my experience the OMs always did a lot more to run the store globally while the SMs just focused on electronics. The OMs would actually be helping all over the store while the SMs would run their little fiefdom and forbid their tech associates from doing any tasks outside that department.

Letting the OMs go while keeping the SMs has really led to a shortage of qualified GMs.

Yeah it figures, fire the ops managers while the lazy assSMs sit in the F'ing office 90% of the time.

Worked with several SMs and all but 1 were lazy as hell. Take credit for anything positive in the store but when Esp is down "oh it's the cashiers...they're not offering...."

Yeah they are not even letting them re hire into the company for a demoted position. HRs excuse is they dont want disgruntled employees working here. It's already happening too most FC on the west coast. Then Ops managers are next. Getting replaced by "ops Supervisor" making 20 gran less a year while doing same\more duties. .....Staples, make more happen right. What a joke

Is this confirmed. This would be the Tolleson FC I am guessing. How many people are being affected? Look to REI they apparently are / were hireing. Keep people in the company that keep the company going. I am not happy with what staples is doing they are like a spoiled little kid because they are not able to buy Office Depot! Get over it move on and keep the people who have made the company what it is, or was.

There are posts out there with names of people who seem to make the company not a very pleasant place to work, I just recently read a post about an unconfirmed employee, Catherine Stewart. I don't know if she really exists, I don't care if she does or not but it is people like her or him, who should not be around they help make staples , or any other company out there an unpleasant place to work!

All the power to you. Hopefully Tolleson will not be too badly hit.

This company has a tack record of eliminating the work horse positions and getting rid of the hard working and ethical people while allowing the stupid and lazy to thrive.

For example - eliminate most Ops managers, but keep SMs - generalizing here, but from my PoV most OMs worked at least twice as hard as their SM in the same store.

The FCs are the warehouses on the Contract and Commercial side of Staples.

Leads can be thought of as similar to military sergeants--enlisted (hourly) personnel with more responsibility and slightly higher pay. All or most departments have a lead, with larger ones having as many as necessary to keep things running. A good lead is an invaluable asset. They are the go-to person, often having more knowledge about the department than the supervisor. They help to keep things on track and basically run things when the sup is not available.

How Staples expects these large warehouse to operate efficiently without leads is beyond me. And to just put them out of their jobs is asinine. Especially when some of the FCs are having trouble hiring and keeping people.
