Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Talent Assessment

Talent assessment was not what they advertised, it was a joke with many people with no or poor skills still around - some top performers let go due to personal vendettas or simply speaking their mind openly. The culture values 'yes' people and the word 'merit' is disappearing from our vocabulary

Corporate EHS is a joke. The old group in charge might have played funny with the money, but at least their answer wasn't always, "wait for WIMS to come out".

EHS overloaded in corporate and skeletal in the field. They don't "walk the talk". Young and inexperienced, non-safety people running the department; I've heard same about "yes people".

For years all the Managers and Supervisors did was attend meetings and "strategy" meetings or hire expensive Consultants. They still have the big $$$ firms on board. Bain was the worst.

I guess I've never fully appreciated the destructive power of stupidity until now. Look at what its done to a once great company.

Yes totally true. I speak of the experience first hand. They always say they encourage feedback, new ideas or concerns but if your feedback, ideas or concerns are in line with they way they think..you are outcasted, kicked out the group and ignored! I truly believe they do not care about Williams but only their personal climb up the ladder!

This was definitely true for the EHS department. If you were not a Legacy Access employee or one of Stephanie's "hand selected young (35 years old or younger) yes men" then you were let go.

My biggest gripe was nothing happening in the current system but all it got me was some walking papers. Guess I will go to one of their contract companies and charge them three times the amount it's worth.

Not much Action Jackson Occurring at Williams, the reason being the trend is to take credit for something before it was completed, and then get promoted and leave the mess behind for the flunkies to clean up.

Was it just me, or did others regularly attend meetings/calls that would literally not produce a single actionable outcome? Or if action items were identified, no one ever follow-up on them. I would often sit around conference room tables surrounded by people making $40-$80/hour and add up how much money was being wasted by having another dog and pony show meeting.

Hello

It is always important to support your boss and do the best you can for them, and sometimes it requires delivering bad news, of course the king always cuts the head off of the person delivering the bad news. The yes man culture at Williams is the worst I have ever seen due to this. What you have is a bunch of chickens running around with their head cut off. A total waste of energy and resources. A think this has a lot to do with the less than stellar performance of the stock over the last 20 years, hasn't gain a penny in value in a market even where even mickey mouse can make money.

Very true. It appeared that the overriding factor was whether or not you were buddies with your boss. Consider if you can think of one instance were a high performer that bucked their boss when their boss put forth a silly idea was retained over a sub-par "yes man".
