Just wondering how many of those placed on BS PIPs (or terminations for trivial / false infractions) in the last couple years have made out.
Did they try to block UI benefits and to what extent? Have they provided negative feedback to prospective new employers?
I was termed in the fall of 2015 after being placed on a PIP over the summer due to a bad PA. Yes, I should have seen the writing on the wall and gotten out long before. Similar story others have stated, OM and very little payroll dedicated to that department. Between truck freight, pogs, seasonal playbooks and daily pull lists and blocking there was not enough payroll to do it all, and when I was not on duty, the conditions degraded and any progress I made was lost.
They tried to block UI, but the state labor dept rep that handled my case had seen the pattern Staples had established in terminations. My UI hearing was over the phone, 3 weeks after my termination. The rep read verbatim off the PIP/ Final. I defended my work ethic, he made a remark that he had seen the exact same comments on the PIPs / Final write-ups of other former Staples managers. I waited a week, and received a notice that Staples was appealing the award of benefits in my case, then the next day I received benefits for the previous weeks I was eligible and a notice that the appeal would not go forward.
I know a few others that were denied UI, but appealed and won. One of them now has a lawsuit for wrongful termination working it's way through the court. The lawyer that won his UI appeal uncovered enough evidence to make a strong case for it.
