PIPs and other BS terminations

Just wondering how many of those placed on BS PIPs (or terminations for trivial / false infractions) in the last couple years have made out.

Did they try to block UI benefits and to what extent? Have they provided negative feedback to prospective new employers?

I was termed in the fall of 2015 after being placed on a PIP over the summer due to a bad PA. Yes, I should have seen the writing on the wall and gotten out long before. Similar story others have stated, OM and very little payroll dedicated to that department. Between truck freight, pogs, seasonal playbooks and daily pull lists and blocking there was not enough payroll to do it all, and when I was not on duty, the conditions degraded and any progress I made was lost.

They tried to block UI, but the state labor dept rep that handled my case had seen the pattern Staples had established in terminations. My UI hearing was over the phone, 3 weeks after my termination. The rep read verbatim off the PIP/ Final. I defended my work ethic, he made a remark that he had seen the exact same comments on the PIPs / Final write-ups of other former Staples managers. I waited a week, and received a notice that Staples was appealing the award of benefits in my case, then the next day I received benefits for the previous weeks I was eligible and a notice that the appeal would not go forward.

I know a few others that were denied UI, but appealed and won. One of them now has a lawsuit for wrongful termination working it's way through the court. The lawyer that won his UI appeal uncovered enough evidence to make a strong case for it.

Stand up for your rights. CEOs should not profit over your job loss.

I feel the FTC does not really care about rising prices , post buyout. This is merely an excuse to block it.

I think the real reason is Ron and Obama's little tiff.

It will be funny to watch Ron have another melt down either way,

This ruling one way or the other is irrelevant. The FTC will appeal if they lose and they can drag this out for centuries if they wish. Most of these types of things have seen the companies eventually give up...

The judge ruled against the FTC today regarding allowing testimony from an economist from UCLA Berkley because his analysis was not shared with Staples / OD before hand.

As much as I am against the buyout I think there is a good chance the judge will side with Staples.

Both companies are pretty much doomed either way, I don't want yet another big payday for Ron and Roland. The should both be forced to walk away from the new company empty handed if it does go through.

That's actually a step up from their normal methods of harassment and pips , provided they don't play games with severance.

WFA - do you really think the buyout won't go through given the attitude of the judge after the whole thing with the Amazon exec ?

How will they handle the OD terminations one asked? First and foremost they won't all be OD employees termed, it will be a mix of current Staples and OD employees. They will have the perfect excuse STORE CLOSINGS. They will immediately move to close hundreds of stores in competing markets. Stores kept will be selected based on market metrics, lease etc. but NOT on whether they are Staples or OD. Specific employees they wish to get rid of may find themselves "TRANSFERED" to the closing location to "ASSIST" in the transition, just before the closing is announced. I predict that if the merger happens (It won't) then this will be near 500 stores and will happen pretty quickly because they have already done all the preliminary work and know which locations will go...

Makes you wonder how they will handle the terminations of all the OD people should they win the court case.

I was terminated for a BS reason, UI kicked it back to with a bunch of questions. I answered them saying what I terminated for was objective and not measurable, nor was there any company policy regarding how to handle customers questions, (i.e. turn it over to Customer Service, handle it yourself, etc). They approved it and Staples didn't bother to contest it. Just have all you documentation and you should be OK. They have tons of terminations to worry about that were BS or through the January culling
