It is sad when they had employees that had their offices packed up for weeks and hoping to get their package this round, but were chosen to stay. Goes to show you that they did a great job doing the talent assessments

@-gdq Why would someone with adequate self-awareness to realize they were going to be let go be considered a "deadbeat"? If you saw the writing on the wall, only a moron would not have been prepared for a cut and had their finances/life/new employment in order. My buddy already had another job and will be starting in a month...why would he have not have been hoping to get laid off instead of just quitting?
Some are genuinely upset to get laid off while others are delighted. Take your blinders off and see that not everyone was married to Williams and/or the oil and gas industry.
The original post was by one that was laid off and did not want to be on the list. There were quite a few in the office that wanted to be on the list of cuts and were not. Plus the lazy greedy ones aren't going to leave without the severance.
This is why we don't let people volunteer to go -- we lose deadbeats like you and scare real talent into going too. Some may have been wishing, others were genuinely surprised they were severed. If you already have your boxes packed, maybe now is a time to consider another job...oh wait, everyone else in the energy industry is cutting back too. Take a few days and the weekend. Maybe Monday you can come in appreciating your job?
I was starting to worry that I wasn't going to get cut. I already had plans for that severance money. I kind of felt like Clark Griswald waiting on his Christmas bonus. Thank you baby jesus.
