They've been setting up meetings for next week called "cyber security awareness" my guess is they aren't trying to help you from someone committing fraud against you. They're probably trying to scare people to keep them from pulling data off the L drive before the big day. So when I was convinced that it was happening this week I'm not so sure anymore.

IT is actively monitoring all downloads to any non-network device including thumb drives and uploads to the internet. You will notice these transfers are slow. That is due to the monitoring. If it hasn't started already supervisors may start getting emails if detected. There has been a noticable increase in these types of transfers. Big brother is watching so think twice before putting your last 10 years of work on that thumb drive.
sounds like that may be the real motive but no worry, any senior engineer that has been in prior O&G cycles copied it as a professional courtesy. Western engineering ethics dictate we protect and hold the data safe.
If that's true then why did it just get put on our calendars? Usually things that are planned get a few weeks notice.. Plus judging by the ethics meeting they've had some issues with people "cleaning house" lately. Look at the FAQ's.
"Cyber Security" is just one class schedule for next week and planned long before the layoffs.
