Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

How long do I have to wait until I can apply for unemployment benefits ?

( Assuming no job prospects until my severance runs out )

Wow Painful! It is much easier when you pay for it to the government and faster to come out of your paycheck. That's our government working for you when you need them..

I am pretty sure you have to wait until the end of the WARN period because until then you are still considered an active employee.

Hmm. You should be able to create an account on line with unemployment to get the ball rolling and there's several phone numbers to call for questions if you have 2-1/2 hours to sit on hold. It's a pain in the ars, If you don't report your weekly job hunt progress correctly, they'll cancel and you'll have to appeal to DVN in court. It sucks...so be sure to read the requirements so you don't do something stupid.

A week or two after Layoffs or after WARN expires ?

I believe it's a week or two. Make sure you get your 5 phone calls or job applications recorded on paper because you have to report it weekly.

If you don't they'll cancel and you'll have to go to court and fight Devon.
