Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

SWN's time will come...

Looks like the next victim of low commodity prices is Ultra Petroleum. Despite the name it was predominately nat gas in Wyoming.

I think it will be an ugly day for SWN after they file the K. They have given no guidance and usually that means a company is in trouble. I think SWN is a lot worse off than some think. Honestly, the reduction in workforce did not come soon enough. And the fact that all the moron EVPs and SVPs are still drawing significant salaries isn't helping.

It's amazing how one acquisition can single-handedly destroy a balance sheet.

And along those lines, there's a rumor circulating at SWN that one of the remaining legends of exploration, at least in their own mind, believes that they are still employed at the company because of their involvement with the Fayetteville discovery .Upon hearing that I couldn't help but think of only one appropriate reply : "Sir, I knew Phillip Shelby personally , and you Sir, are no Phillip Shelby", aka, the real discoverer of Southwestern 's Fayetteville play. Phillip left the company years ago for the company's FTC (failure to compensate). Management also let the one geologist that did the critical Marcellus work, walk out of the door as much geologic talent has been allowed to part ways with the company. Much worse than chickens ever could be, corporate natural selection now dictates that hungry pterodactyls will be home to roost shortly.

Do you remember when you were little and one of your siblings got exceptionally blessed? Your parents said to be happy for that sibling. We should do the same for the VP's. In fact, encourage them to spend their money and help boost the economy, e.g., buy a house on the lake and make a realtor's dream come true.

It is called sherreconmics! How do you think they placed a $5.4 billion value on something that had a true value of less than a third of that. Chesapeake saw them coming and held fast. close by year end. Stat oil said, I want a piece of that. SWN's management thought they knew more than Chesapeake and Statoil............ The top management of SWN, not one, was involved with the discovery of the Fayetteville or the Marcellus. They all came in after the fact and destroyed SWN, by not living by the formula they preached. This BOD needs to go, as well as Senior management. Hopefully, the BOD will do its job and fire them all.
