Can't sleep folks. Feel I got betrayed by my management. That's the worst part. I feel so sad.

If you have been in gas and oil anytime at all, this is just part of the business. The Johnny-come-latelys were told that the business was cyclic in nature. If they weren't, their college did them a huge disservice.

I have been in the business 45 years and have been here before. You prepare in the good times so you can survive the bad times. If you stay in the business, you'll know on the next boom there will be a bust eventually.

God has a plan for everyone? Ask the the oppressed, starving women and children whom are bent slaughtered and raped by the thousands everyday. Some righteous plan that is.

EBM. I chuckled over your reference to the state motto of Oklahoma. It reminded me of "Arbeit macht frei". That, if you were wondering, translates from German along the lines "Work sets you free", and was over the entrance to Auschwitz and many of the other concentration camps in WWII.

For what it's worth, I got laid off twice last year, no severance, no vacation pay.. just unemployment was fortunate to have saved for a rainy day. You will get through it. It will test your patience, your will and you pride, but you will come out of this a better person. Keep your head up! Thoughts are with all of those affected by this horrible market!

@-ebm you evidently still has a job. Don't underestimate the people you don't know. I am also a hard worker, and was let go. I am knowledgeable and dedicated to my work. It is not easy for those who left , liked their job and like to work. I don't need a quote from a history book.

"No man seems to me more unhappy than one who has never met with adversity. For such a man has never had an opportunity to test himself" - Seneca, 'Moral Essays'

This work was written 2000 years ago. People were smarter back then. Not sure what you are expecting from life but adversity is not your enemy - comfort is your enemy. Is has seduced you and many others. The state motto for Oklahona in Latin says "hard work conquers all things." We need to be the people who live into this motto. No more crying in your beer, get your resume together, make some phone calls, look in the mirror and realize this is your opportunity to be the person who can not only survive, but improve in time of adversity. Suck it up and get out there.

I agree. Managers have to choose to keep the arrow off themselves. my supervisor did a poor job acting and I saw right through to the indifference. You go to work to pay for the life you live outside of work. Differentiate the two and it makes it easier to get through the times like this.

If you think for one second that your manager didn't have a say in who goes you are wildly mistaken. "Your manager was livid". I'm sure that was just a show. It was in no way random.

My wife's little brother passed away at the age of 16 from bone cancer last year. He endured 2+ years of chemotherapy only to finally lose his life to the disease.

Just remember, layoffs suck; but your life could always be so much worse.

I was laid off before and had the same sense of betrayal. It took me about a year to heal emotionally. Just look at it this way - Julius Cesar was literally stabbed to death and Joan of Arc was burnt as a witch. Both were great leaders and excelled at their job. What us - ordinary humans can hope for? Even though it hurts, such things as betrayal are a part of human experience. It will happen during our lifetimes. The best thing you can do is say "screw it", enjoy little things in life while you can and bounce back. Resilience is the key to survival. At least you are still alive and healthy. 5 years from now you'll sit there happy somewhere during lunch with new coworkers or your family or your new business customers and think: "I'm so glad I got laid off that day. Because of it, now I can enjoy this." Butterfly effect. Rebuild yourself up. You can do it. And you can sleep during the day now if you stay up all night! You can have mimosas when you wake up at 5 pm. :)

It wasn't my manager that betrayed me, it was my managers upper management that betrayed them. My manager was livid when they let us go. I understand it's the nature of the beast, and we had to go. I didn't want to go, but God has a plan and I have to have faith. I wonder if those of us let go, got the better end of the deal? The betrayal and mistrust that was left behind, is going to be very hard to work with. Devon as a whole, is a good company, but this is going to be hard to get over for many of those that remain.

Look at the world man, so much pain and suffering, our problems are just blips, we will come out stronger, I was let go today too and I am so depressed, yet you got to be aware of the temporary nature of this, something better always comes up. God bless
