Emphasis on hiring and promotion has been young people for the last few years regardless of experience or productivity of the older employees.
Over 50% of Devon employees prior to the RIF had less than 3 years experience. Devon had to let younger employees go or the company would have even greater problems.
With some of the management they kept you wonder if they really want to stay viable as a company.
Yes a good number of people left that weren't 'popular', but there were a lot of amazing people that got cut as well (regardless of age). Actually seems like more young people got cut. I was so happy to leave in this first round. It will be an adjustment for those that remain.
There's no formula for it, but I would lay off the people that are disliked in the first round. They have to take that chance and make sure it happens. Sprinkle in some random people to not make it suspicious. I have always said when you work for the man you come to expect things like this happen. There will be more rounds in the future, so count your blessings you went early.
