I think he was more or less looking for a confession that there is corporate directed plan to drive out older, higher paid GMs. Such a confession could fuel the fire to get more people to look into wrongful termination / discrimination suits.
I think the more of the field management that gets let go, the bigger possibility of someone actually admitting it. Right now, these guys are getting about 16-20 weeks severance and likely more cash to keep them quiet. As more get laid off or the hush money runs out, someone may come forward.
