Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

This too shall pass. I was laid off last April 21st from Devon.

If you are laid off today, you will find the next phase of your career elsewhere. It is the gap between now and your next assignment that you need to work as if it was your job. Don't give too much attention to the myriad of reasons why you won't find a job.

Spouses need to be supportive at this time.

Grieve the loss, feel the pain, then move on. Don't get stuck in the problem, focus on the solution. Your identity is not, nor was it ever what you do to earn an income or who you work for or your title. In a hundred years from now when you are gone how do you want to be remembered? Those answers are YOUR identity. Now go get on LinkedIn http://www.forbes.com/sites/lizryan/2014/05/19/ten-ways-to-use-linkedin-in-your-job-search/#7634cc335b29 and focus on the solution!

I was laid off from Devon in November...so thankful it happened then when the job market was as flooded so I found work fairly quickly....praying for all those in the mass layoff this week. I am hoping they find work quickly. Apply for Unemployment asap, save that along with whatever you can of your severance pay so you have plenty of time to look for new work!

I was also laid off last April. If you are laid off today, you will go through a lot of different emotions. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Take a deep breath, enjoy a couple of weeks off, keep your head up. Unlike the post saying there are no jobs in OKC, there are jobs for those who look...In fact you might find one you like better. Maybe something outside the EP companies. I did what this original poster said, treated my new career search like a job. I took time to find something that I really enjoyed, that was not just another job. Devon is a good company, these are difficult times...Here's praying and hoping for $40+ oil to return very soon to turn this ship around.

There is a lot of reasons it will be impossible to find a job in this state. Devon is one of the last of the companies to do layoffs so that means all the other employees laid off from other companies took any and all jobs out there. Best bet, pack up your stuff list your house and move.
