Do they call you to your manager's office and tell you?
Is HR present?
What's the story they give you?
Do you have to leave immediately?
Anybody has an idea about how they execute layoffs?

I got laid of in 2008. My boss came in with a man and a women. I was really excited because I thought they were finally coming in with a new project. The boss bounced me with about a 2 or 3 sentence comment and left. The guy was a big HR guy, just in case I went berserk and beat the crap out of my little shit of a boss. When he realized I was peaceful, he left. The lady was HR and spent the whole time trying to rush me out. I faked a trip to the bathroom to say good by to a few friends. I had to come back the next day and have my former office neighbor bring the rest of my stuff down.
On the other hand, I got about a years severance.

They will call you into a conference room with yoir supervisor, an HR rep, and a security officer. They will explain that you are being let go, explain your swverance and unemployment options, then they will place a revolver with a single bullet on the table and offer you a chance to double your severance package by engaging in a game of russian roulette with the HR rep.
See you soon!!
Department have been identified to be combined and eliminated. They have been told to reduce G&A by a certain amount. So each surviving department will create their list. So for IT ben's drinking buddies will be safe. The cut will be deep. Expect many supervisor to be demoted or gone. Land will be reduce to minimal to manage leases. Hopefully all the contractors will be let go to protect Devon jobs. Who knows⛑
Can't comment about how they will "execute the plan" at Devon but I can tell you the CHK layoff was very similar to the way cattle are handled in a slaughterhouse. It is gruesome -- they herded us into the conference room in groups of about 25-30. I will never forget the ashen looks on everyone's faces (mine included most likely). It was an awful experience that I would wish upon no one.
I know someone from the IT layoff last year. They got a meeting invite from HR shortly before they had to go meet and be let go. Not sure if anyone went to get them when it was time.
I am the original poster, thank you all for your responses and no, I am not a journalist
That Game of Thrones comment made me lmfao!!
I remember one saying it went like this ; Your manager will call you to a conference room where your manager and HR will tell you your position has been eliminated, they give you your severance papers and you will need to turn in badge and cell phone (if you have one) then someone will pack and ship your things to you, and your escorted out of the building. Done... bye bye I'ts takes more time to come into the company than to exit it, or rather ejected from it when severed. And as your escorted out everyone knows what's happened as news travels swiftly. Life goes on, an old chapter closes in your life and a new chapter begins. However, if it's a large volume being let go the process may be done in groups by floor.
With My layoff, the big tipoff was you will security walking around on your floor. A private conference room is set-up, your supervisor, calls you on the phone, in my case I wasn't in the office, so they had to come & get me & I knew exactly what was happening as I had seen the security. It was one of the longest, worst moments in my life. My supervisor, manager, & an HR were in the office & said my position had been eliminated due to a resource reduction. The manager spoke first & HR gave me a severance packet to read over & sign. They took my badge & made me sign paperwork. I was asked what items I needed from my office, my sup grabbed the items, & security escorted me to my car in the parking garage. One of the worst moments of my life. Definitely a huge life, learning experience. Part of the nature of the O&G world.
Did you see the end of Game of Thrones where they make the Queen do the walk of shame? It's kinda like that.
If you get a vague mandatory meeting from HR that has historically been the reaper. You will not go back to your desk after that. You should make sure anything you have of value is packed to go with you because someone else will be packing your stuff and deciding what they think is your property vs what they think is company property.
FYI- reporters are torlling this website for their bloody notes just like they did at the CHK layoff site.
If you don't know you don't work @Devon. Stop trolling around and go find real news!
Oh! And don't dare to bring the helicopter as you guys did at CHK. Show some respect and class!

HR should be present to give you a quick overview of your packet and you will be asked to turn in your badge and any other property that belongs to the company.
