I think Apache, Anadarko, Chesapeake, Whiting and Noble should merge as soon as possible. Call the new company Mammoth Oil and Gas. The new name alone would position the company in the 'Too big to fail' category. Government bailout likely.

Mammoth Oil and Gas is the name of Harry Sinclair's company that was involved with the Teapot Dome Scandal in the 1920's.
