Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

Consultants

I notice some of you say "Get rid of the consultants" as an option for saving the company money. Just FYI, laid off consultants get no severance package and can't collect unemployment. They cost the company less in terms of health insurance and other benefits. And many consultants have worked for MO for years are very loyal to the company. Obviously times are tough and everyone is afraid of losing their jobs, but consultants have families too. My consultant spouse works his ass off and works anytime he is asked to. We would be just as screwed as everyone else in the event of a layoff. And unlike those of you with college degrees, it won't be as easy for middle-aged men who have worked in the oilfield their entire lives to transfer skills to some other sector.
