Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Go down with the ship

There are no jobs for you left locally, if you didn't leave by now my advice is stick around and take your package then move to a market that's still viable. Dallas or Houston, if you're in this industry and have never had to uproot and relocate consider your past very blessed. God speed those of you left. Again the local economy is more then oil and gas so be prepared to reinvent yourself.

The political climate in the state threatens progress. Several companies looking to relocate are afraid of our crazy legislature, all the religious posturing and posing trying to out Jesus one another, crumbling infrastructure, creationists, global warming deniers, and the lack of education funding. Long story short - they and their employees don't want to relocate here. We keep electing these jerks so I guess we deserve our dependence on the O&G industry who keep said jerks in their back pockets.

OKC is a wonderful place to live, if you were born and raised here.

You're right about the local economy being more than oil and gas and OKC has actually diversified since the 90s. We need more diversification and this can happen when those affected by the current situation in O&G decide to stay and start new businesses. The barriers to entry in OKC are much less than Dallas or Houston where the cost of living is MUCH higher. I actually see OKC becoming more of a tech hub - centrally located, low cost of living, close to major markets like KC, Dallas, Denver, etc. OKC is a great place to live and it'll only get better.
